We found the solution for dirty towels in Martha Stewarts Handbook. You simply keep a container of it in your laundry room. I used a 5 gallon storage bin.
10 parts water to 1 part bleach
I tried it today and instantly got rid of the dirty towel smell! Love it!

Do not attempt to parent without reading this book. Read it a.s.a.p - I am so glad that I am reading it now as a mother of two children born so close together - It makes some of the things my children do make more sense and helps me to adjust accordingly to my child's needs. Did you use it on colored towel or just white ones?
Just whites. It is meant for your cleaning towels not bath towels. I bet you could try clorox2 for colored towels.
Sorry for snopping .... vinigar takes that smell out of your bath towels ... like a charm...I know it sounds weird but it works!!!
